Who I am...
Katie Lovatt is a Manchester based contemporary artist whose richly textured, mixed-media paintings explore emotion, movement and the quiet beauty found within imperfection.
Entirely self-taught, her artistic journey has been shaped not only by years of experimentation but by a deep desire to create work that feels authentic, instinctive and emotionally resonant.
At the heart of Katie's practice is an enduring fascination with texture. More than a visual element, texture is the language through which each painting develops its own identity. Layer by layer, surfaces emerge that invite touch and contemplation, with light, shadow and depth continually shifting as the viewer's perspective changes.
Every mark, ridge and subtle variation contributes to the painting's character, ensuring that no two works are ever alike. It is this relationship between texture and emotion that inspires her most, allowing each piece to evolve naturally rather than conforming to a predetermined outcome.
Katie's paintings are created to bring warmth, depth and a sense of calm into contemporary interiors while encouraging viewers to slow down and discover something new with every glance. Through expressive surfaces, thoughtful layering and an intuitive approach to composition, she creates timeless abstract works that celebrate individuality, transformation and the beauty of imperfection.

My Process
Every painting begins without a fixed outcome. Through intuitive layers of mixed media, texture gradually emerges, allowing each piece to develop its own rhythm and identity. The process is one of exploration, where every mark influences the next until the work reaches its natural balance

Why I Paint
Painting is my way of creating moments of calm in a busy world. I'm drawn to the quiet beauty found in texture, subtle movement and imperfect surfaces, allowing each piece to develop naturally without forcing the outcome.
My hope is that every painting becomes more than something to look at. I want it to bring warmth, depth and a sense of connection to the spaces people live in, revealing new details and character over time.
